PIP Explained
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit for people between 16 and State Pension age designed to help with the extra costs of living with a long-term health condition or disability. It is not means-tested, not affected by savings and can be paid whether or not you are working.
Who Can Qualify
- You may qualify for PIP if your condition affects your ability to:
- Prepare or eat food
- Wash, bathe or dress
- Manage your medication
- Communicate or engage socially
- Make decisions
- Move around safely
- Plan or follow journeys
- These difficulties have lasted (or are expected to last) at least 12 months
- PIP is based on how your condition affects you, not the diagnosis itself.
PIP is made up of two parts - Daily Living (help with everyday tasks) and Mobility (getting around). Each part is paid at either a Standard or Enhanced rate depending on how your condition affects you.
Daily Living:
Standard Rate: £76.70 per week
Enhanced Rate: £114.60 per week
Mobility:
Standard Rate: £30.30 per week
Enhanced Rate: £80.00 per week
PIP is paid every 4 weeks and you can receive one or both parts depending upon your needs.
Your C2S adviser will explain which rates may apply to you during your assessment.
